In 2024, the world economy remains resilient in a modest recovery, with a resurgence in trade and investment. In a complex and uncertain global situation, the Chinese economy is still showing strong vitality and potential. Led by the dual carbon target, the green economy has become a new growth point for the Chinese economy. It is 20 years since the emergence of the ESG concept in 2004. While there has been some discrepancy about ESG investment in developed markets, but the popularity of ESG in China's capital markets has steadily increased. The number of new sustainable investment products continues to grow. ESG, sustainable investment and climate risk and opportunity management are further recognized in the mainstream.
 
Based on public information, China Sustainable Investment Review 2024 (the "Report") has mapped out the status quo and the size of sustainable investment in China. As compiled by the China Sustainable Investment Forum (China SIF), the green credit balance stood at RMB 35.75 trillion; the AUM of ESG mutual securities funds totalled RMB 409.865 billion; the outstanding size of green bonds stood at RMB 2.10 trillion; the sustainability-linked bond was RMB 146.6 billion; the social bond was RMB 402.7 billion; the sustainability bond was RMB 15 billion, the transition bond was RMB 40.5 billion; the outstanding size of sustainable wealth management products was RMB 188 billion; the total amount of ESG private equity funds was about RMB 686.1 billion; and the total amount of green industry funds was about RMB 570.5 billion.
 
This Report summarised the international development trends of sustainable investment, reviewed the progress of China's responsible sustainable policies and financial institutions' sustainable investment practices in recent years, mapped out existing stock indices, mutual funds and wealth management products that have taken into account ESG factors.
